This is a 12 to 16-month co-op internship within the Forestry Planning team, part of the Asset Management group. You will support the business in making data-driven decisions to optimize the value of electrical assets. The role begins in September 2026 and is based in an office setting in Edmonton, Alberta.
What you'll do#
- Review contractor-submitted data in Clearion software for accuracy using Python scripts.
- Support wildfire status mapping and forecasting efforts.
- Analyze historical datasets to identify incident root causes and vegetation management trends.
- Evaluate work and asset data to determine maintenance strategies, such as repair versus replace decisions.
- Gather input from across the business to characterize costs, risks, and benefits for project planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a co-op or internship program at a recognized Canadian university.
- Enrollment in a program related to Forestry, Environmental Sciences, or Natural Resource Management.
- Familiarity with data management principles.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team on complex technical projects.
- Experience with spatial data and ArcGIS (ESRI or FME) is considered an asset.
- Additional assets include knowledge of remote sensing data (LiDAR), coding ability in Python or R, machine learning processes, tree growth science, or experience in the electric utilities industry.
