    About the role#

    Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (REDC), a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is seeking a Business Advisor Support Intern to assist our team in serving small businesses throughout New York City. This role offers hands-on exposure to business counseling, loan application support, and community engagement, providing insight into how a CDFI supports small businesses in low-to-moderate income communities.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in outreach activities across NYC, including events, tabling, and community partner engagement.
    • Provide Spanish ↔ English translation and interpretation during client meetings and workshops.
    • Assist Business Advisors with client intake, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
    • Support the preparation of loan application packages by gathering documentation and organizing files.
    • Maintain accurate client records in Salesforce and assist with data entry and reporting.
    • Develop and distribute workshop and marketing materials covering financial literacy, digital marketing, and business planning.
    • Conduct basic market research and collect community resource information.
    • Shadow Business Advisors to learn about counseling, small business operations, and loan processing.

    What you'll need#

    • Current student or recent graduate in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
    • Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) is required.
    • Interest in economic development, community impact, entrepreneurship, and small business finance.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and detail-oriented skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite; experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms is a plus.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
    • Commitment to supporting diverse, low-to-moderate-income communities.

    Location & details#

    • Location: On-site in Jackson Heights, New York, with occasional travel to other NYC boroughs.
    • Schedule: Part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the semester, with full-time options available in the summer.
    • Compensation: This is a paid internship with an hourly rate commensurate with experience.
