About the role#
Renaissance Economic Development Corporation is looking for a Business Advisor Support Intern to assist our team in serving small businesses across New York City. This role offers hands-on experience in business counseling, loan application processes, and community engagement within a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution. You will work directly with our Business Advisors to help support diverse, low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs.
What you'll do#
- Participate in outreach activities throughout New York City, such as events, tabling, and community partner engagement.
- Provide Spanish to English translation and interpretation during client meetings and workshops.
- Assist Business Advisors with client intake, scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Help prepare loan application packages by gathering documentation and organizing files.
- Maintain accurate client records in Salesforce and assist with data entry and reporting.
- Develop and distribute workshop and marketing materials on topics like financial literacy and business planning.
- Conduct market research and collect community resource information.
- Shadow Business Advisors to learn about small business operations and loan processing.
What you'll need#
- Current student or recent graduate in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written, is required.
- Interest in economic development, community impact, and small business finance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a focus on detail.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Experience with Salesforce or other CRM software is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in Jackson Heights, New York, with occasional travel to other boroughs.
- This is a paid, part-time internship with flexible hours (10 to 15 hours per week) during the semester and a full-time option available during the summer.
