About the role#
Animed Animal Hospital offers a hands-on externship program for DVM students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team and receive mentorship throughout your rotation. We offer flexible scheduling, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum. A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in daily patient care activities. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in the management of medical cases
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Proof of professional liability insurance (AVMA PLIT)
- A professional demeanor and adherence to our practice standards
