About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and meet the requirements of your college curriculum. We offer flexible rotations that typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your needs. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and evaluates your performance throughout your time with us.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in the daily operations of our practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting with medical case management.
- Providing wellness care to patients.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Creating medical records including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
We expect all participants to behave professionally and adhere to the standards outlined in our employee handbook. Please review the Veterinary Practice Act to understand the scope of duties permitted under supervision.
