About the role#
This summer internship offers a chance to join the Structural Design group in Tullahoma, Tennessee. You will work on project teams designing complex testing equipment and facilities for the aerospace and automotive industries. This is a full-time, 10-week program scheduled for the summer of 2027. You will report to a technical manager and work alongside a dedicated mentor. At the end of the assignment, you will present your work to staff and other interns.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine engineering tasks to gain experience with industry methods and practices.
- Prepare computations, specifications, and reports of limited scope.
- Apply design loading to structures using applicable building codes.
- Design and analyze structures to meet project specific requirements.
- Coordinate with drafters to develop 3D models and 2D drawing packages.
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, and cost estimating.
- Review subcontractor submittals and shop drawings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BSCE or MSCE program at an accredited institution.
- Standing as a rising junior or above, with at least two years of completed coursework.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Completed coursework in Statics and Strengths of Materials.
- US Citizenship with the right to work permanently in the United States.
- Involvement in at least one extra-curricular activity.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Location & details#
- This position is located on-site in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
- Regular attendance is required Monday through Friday.
- Housing is not provided for this internship.
