    About the role#

Sourcing interns help Amca buy the parts and materials needed for every build. You will follow hardware from the initial purchase order to completion. You will help find and vet suppliers and visit shops to see how parts are made. This role involves procurement, build planning, and supplier development through real work and ownership.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the full procurement cycle, including sourcing, quoting, negotiating, and issuing purchase orders for hardware, raw materials, and consumables.
    • Manage open orders by tracking deliveries, updating lead times, and expediting parts that risk impacting build schedules.
    • Resolve purchase order discrepancies with receiving, suppliers, and engineering.
    • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data including lead times, pricing, vendor records, and part statuses.
    • Identify opportunities to improve costs and lead times across the supply base.
    • Plan material needs for active and upcoming builds by working from BOMs, work orders, and engineering requirements.
    • Track parts through the full lifecycle from issuance through receiving, inspection, kitting, and build completion.
    • Coordinate with engineering and production to keep part flow aligned with build priorities.
    • Support documentation accuracy to ensure traceability through the build.
    • Identify and onboard new suppliers across machining, injection molding, PCBAs, electronics, and assembly.
    • Conduct supplier vetting by evaluating capabilities, quality systems, and certifications.
    • Join occasional supplier visits to build relationships and assess shop operations.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a bachelor's or graduate program in supply chain management, industrial or mechanical engineering, business, or a related field.
    • Ability to stay organized while managing a long, shifting list of orders and priorities.
    • Curiosity about manufacturing processes and a willingness to learn to read BOMs or engineering drawings.
    • Direct and proactive communication skills when working with suppliers, engineers, and technicians.
    • Willingness to travel occasionally for supplier visits.
    • Ability to work in an environment where plans change and ownership is expected.
    • Preferred: Prior internship or work experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials planning.
    • Preferred: Familiarity with supplier qualification processes and quality documentation like C of C, material certs, or AS9100.
    • Preferred: Experience sourcing across processes such as machining, PCBAs, electronics, coatings, or NDT.
    • This position requires use of information subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
