About the role#
We are looking for an Architecture Research Intern for a 12-month position. You will work on complex optimization problems and build intelligent decision-making models. This role focuses on applying advanced mathematics to real-world products, specifically creating a dynamic Graph Network of Opportunities and enhancing travel experiences for our members. You will move research from the whiteboard into production environments.
What you'll do#
- Research and develop a dynamic Graph Network of Opportunities that adapts to changing member needs and constraints.
- Apply graph theory, network analysis, and optimization to model relationships between members, resources, and opportunities.
- Design network architecture, including data models, scalability, and update mechanisms.
- Build decision support models that evaluate trade-offs across competing objectives.
- Research ways to improve travel experiences through smarter routing, scheduling, and personalized recommendations.
- Develop and test algorithms for optimization, resource allocation, and recommendation systems.
- Analyze experimental results and provide recommendations based on quantitative evidence.
- Collaborate with engineers to transition research concepts into practical applications.
- Communicate modelling approaches and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or completed an MSc or PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
- Expertise in graph theory, network science, optimization theory, or decision support and multi-criteria decision analysis.
- Proficiency in combinatorics, numerical methods, operations research, or statistical physics related to optimization.
- Strong programming skills in Python to translate research concepts into functional code.
- Foundational understanding of cloud computing platforms such as AWS.
- Ability to explain complex models and technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, remote position.
- The role is based in Edmonton, Alberta.
