About the role#
We are hiring a Summer Student to join our Field Operations South Team for a four-month term starting in May 2027. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to maintain the AltaLink transmission system, focusing on Telecommunications and Protection & Control equipment. This position is based at the Janet Service Center in Calgary.
What you'll do#
- Troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain Protection & Control and Telecommunication devices.
- Develop Field Level Hazard Assessments and Safe Work Plans.
- Perform work safely to ensure high reliability for customers.
- Respond to equipment trouble calls in the area.
- Interact with Field Operations, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, and System Operations departments.
- Assist other disciplines as needed and demonstrate our core cultural behaviors.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a recognized two-year Electrical, Wireless, Telecom, or Electronics Engineering Technology program.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass physical fitness and medical requirements.
- Commitment to safety practices and environmental standards.
- Proficiency with computers and spreadsheets.
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions, travel out of town, and respond to after-hours trouble calls.
- A proven record of good attendance and punctuality.
