About the role#
The Speech, Privacy and Technology Project works to protect First Amendment freedoms, expand privacy rights, and ensure civil liberties remain intact as science and technology advance. We are looking for a full-time undergraduate intern for Summer 2027 to join our team in New York City. This role is available on a remote or hybrid basis.
What you'll do#
- Research issues involving free speech, privacy, and technology.
- Draft posts for the ACLU blog.
- Assist with litigation and advocacy projects, including Freedom of Information Act requests.
- Prepare and produce advocacy materials.
- Attend meetings to learn about active cases and projects.
- Propose independent research projects.
- Maintain case files and handle administrative support tasks.
What you'll need#
- You are a currently matriculated undergraduate student who has completed at least one year of your program.
- You have a strong interest in free speech, privacy, and technology.
- You are committed to social justice and civil liberties.
- You have strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- You take initiative to see projects through to completion.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in New York, New York, with remote or hybrid options available.
- You must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
- This is a full-time position requiring 35 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks.
- The internship is paid at a rate of $20 per hour.
