About the role#
The Reproductive Freedom Project at the ACLU is seeking a Summer 2027 Legal Intern. This role supports the project in its mission to protect and expand access to abortion, contraception, and birth equity. Interns join case teams working on active litigation, including challenges to abortion restrictions and efforts to expand access to medication abortion and maternal care. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and complex legal analysis.
- Assist in drafting memoranda, motions, declarations, and legal pleadings.
- Provide general support on active litigation, including cite-checking.
- Support the development of new litigation projects.
- Conduct background research and fact development.
- Track and analyze relevant legislative bills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school, having completed at least one year of study before the internship starts.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to explain complicated legal issues clearly.
- Capacity to balance multiple assignments simultaneously.
- A collaborative attitude and the ability to incorporate feedback.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil rights, and social justice.
- A demonstrated commitment to reproductive health rights and justice is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: This position is based in New York, NY, with remote or hybrid work options available.
- Duration: 10 consecutive weeks, starting May 24 or June 7, 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (35 hours per week).
- Compensation: $24 per hour (taxed stipend). Students with outside funding are eligible for a partial stipend to reach the ACLU total.
