About the role#
The ACLU is hiring a Legal Intern for the LGBTQ & HIV Project for the summer of 2027. This position supports our work to create a just society for LGBTQ people and people living with HIV through litigation, lobbying, and public education. You will work under the supervision of project attorneys to gain experience in civil rights advocacy.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and fact research for current and prospective litigation.
- Draft research memos, discovery requests, affidavits, and motions.
- Research and write materials for legislative advocacy or public education campaigns.
What you'll need#
- You are a currently matriculated law student who has completed at least one year of law school by the start of the internship.
- Demonstrated commitment to the advancement and protection of civil liberties for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV.
- Excellent research skills using internet and legal databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage your time, pay attention to detail, and see projects through to completion.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 35-hour per week internship for 10 consecutive weeks.
- The role is based in the United States and offers remote or hybrid options at our New York office.
- This is a paid position with a stipend of $24 per hour.
