About the role#
The Capital Punishment Project works to challenge the unfairness of the death penalty and advocates for its abolition. This internship offers the chance to support strategic litigation and public advocacy efforts. You will work from the Durham, North Carolina office in a hybrid capacity.
What you'll do#
You will assist the team with legal and policy research and writing. Your daily tasks include:
- Drafting memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
- Researching potential new litigation and factual claims.
- Preparing public education materials.
- Supporting legal teams during depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and trials.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school with at least one year completed before the internship starts.
- A commitment to civil rights and an interest in abolishing the death penalty.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the initiative to finish projects.
Location & details#
- Location: Durham, North Carolina (Hybrid).
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (35 hours per week) for 10 consecutive weeks.
- Compensation: This is a paid position at $24 per hour.
