About the role#
The ACLU of New Jersey is looking for law students to join the team for a full-time summer internship. This position requires a 10-week commitment. Interns work closely with staff to support civil rights and liberties projects across the state. The organization provides at least a partial stipend for all interns.
What you'll do#
Interns contribute to the legal and advocacy work of the organization. You will conduct legal research and write legal memoranda. You may also draft correspondence and analyze pending state or local legislative and regulatory proposals. Beyond office work, interns may attend oral arguments in state and federal court or participate in meetings and events with clients, community partners, and government officials.
What you'll need#
We are looking for highly motivated law students. To apply, you must submit a cover letter, resume, and an unofficial transcript. You also need to provide a writing sample between 5 and 10 pages. If you are a 1L without a legal writing sample, you may submit a piece of writing from a college course along with a note explaining when you expect to have a legal writing sample available.
Location & details#
This role is based in Newark, New Jersey. The office follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
