Field Engineering Co-Op

About the role#

As a Field Engineering Co-op, you will work hands-on with complex distributed systems to help customers solve infrastructure and data observability challenges. This role provides exposure to enterprise-scale engineering, bridging the gap between technical solutions and customer value. You will shadow and contribute to architecture reviews, diagnose performance and scalability issues, and build automation frameworks to support data ecosystems. This is a 4-month, full-time position.

What you'll do#

• Collaborate with the field engineering team to write, test, and deploy software solutions using Java or Scala.
• Troubleshoot issues and propose technical improvements alongside Field Architects.
• Learn to enable observability across Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms, and components like Spark, Hive, and Kafka.
• Design and deploy reusable automation and AI frameworks for data platforms.
• Build context across Sales, Product, and Customer Success teams to understand how engineering solutions meet customer expectations.
• Commit to continuous learning and professional development, adapting to new tools and platforms as required.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field at the University of Waterloo.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, and Python, with a solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software development principles.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including deploying, managing, and scaling applications, and familiarity with concepts such as Pods, Services, Deployments, StatefulSets, ConfigMaps, and Secrets.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Experience with distributed computing, big data technologies, and cloud platforms is considered an asset.

• Term: Summer 2026.
• Location: Kitchener, Ontario (On-site at the Communitech Innovation Center).
• Compensation: Paid internship.
