About the role#
As a Drug Substance Engineering Intern, you will join the Product Development, Science, and Technology team. You will work on the micronization of drug substances, a critical step in API manufacturing. Your project focuses on understanding how the physical properties of powder systems impact feeding performance in processes like jet milling and pin milling. This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Conduct experimental studies to characterize powder properties.
- Evaluate the performance of micronization techniques using different feed mechanisms.
- Analyze data to identify signatures for process performance.
- Develop and verify computational models.
- Present your findings to departmental and cross-functional teams.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- You must be enrolled in university for at least one semester after the internship ends.
- Your expected graduation date is between December 2027 and June 2028.
- You have experience with physical characterization techniques such as flowability, adhesion, cohesion, bulk density, and laser diffraction particle size determination.
- You are proficient in computational modeling techniques, including fluid dynamics or the discrete element method.
- Exposure to comminution processes is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: North Chicago, Illinois
- Term: Summer 2027
