About the role#
Data Science at Zoox turns driving, fleet, and business data into decisions and automation. As an intern, you will join either the Autonomy Software V&V team or the Core/Domain Data Science team. You will spend 12 weeks working on projects such as drift monitoring, automated model retraining, predictive modeling, similarity search, or statistical testing. This is a paid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Analyze real-world driving data to identify patterns, measure autonomy performance, and inform stack improvements.
- Contribute to metrics platforms that track fleet metrics, driving behavior clusters, and safety-critical events.
- Provide data solutions to deliver domain-specific analytical insights.
- Develop and validate the simulation framework evaluating autonomous driving software.
- Collaborate with Simulation team stakeholders to gain insight into robotaxi safety and comfort performance.
- Build performance metrics and conduct in-depth data analyses.
- Use coding and analytical skills to derive insights that inform decisions and automation.
- Test new frameworks and algorithms to improve model performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a B.S., M.S., Ph.D., or advanced degree program in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Good academic standing.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Coursework in machine learning, computer vision, or NLP.
- Familiarity with software-engineering practices including Git, unit testing, debugging, and code reviews.
- Understanding of supervised learning, model evaluation, and common sources of dataset bias and label noise.
- Experience with data analysis, visualization, and communicating data to different audiences.
- Preferred experience includes Databricks, Spark, cloud data tools, dashboarding, experiment design, or LLMs.
- Ability to commit to a full-time, 12-week internship starting in May or June 2027.
- Note: You may not use proprietary information from your work for a thesis or any external publication.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in Foster City, California, or Boston, Massachusetts.
- You must be able to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship.
- The work modality is hybrid.
