    About the role#

    Young Invincibles is hiring a California Student Parent Engagement & Policy Fellow to support our work in higher education advocacy. This role focuses on building community for student parents and advancing policies that help them succeed. You will work closely with the California Director to connect with parenting students, support outreach, and share stories that drive change. This is a part-time, hybrid fellowship running from August 26, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Co-create and execute three regional listening sessions in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and the Inland Empire.
    • Analyze current policies affecting student parents and evaluate their local implementation.
    • Develop and facilitate a stream of the annual State of Young California Conference.
    • Support the Engagement Coordinator in planning programming and events for student parents.
    • Collaborate with partner organizations, coalitions, and community groups.
    • Work with the communications team to collect stories and create content for advocacy.
    • Inform the 2027 policy agenda regarding student and working parents.
    • Serve as a lead liaison to the Student Parent Alliance.
    • Organize and facilitate workshops on topics like health insurance literacy and higher education resources.
    • Assist with administrative tasks including data entry and meeting notes.

    What you'll need#

    • Experience in youth leadership, organizing, public policy, education, health, or nonprofit work.
    • Comfort facilitating sessions in both virtual and in-person settings.
    • Cultural humility and a commitment to working with diverse communities.
    • Strong organizational, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Reliable transportation for travel throughout Southern California.
    • An interest in youth engagement and nonprofit program work.
    • Preference is given to candidates with lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Los Angeles, California.
    • Modality: Hybrid, with one day per week in the office.
    • Commitment: Part-time, up to 19 hours per week.
    • Travel: Occasional travel throughout Southern California is required.
