Social Media Intern

About the role#

This is a part-time, paid Social Media Internship for the Fall 2026 term, running from September 1st through December 31st. You will support the growth and optimization of social media accounts by planning, shooting, and editing short-form video content that spotlights local businesses. This role is remote but based in New York City, requiring the ability to work 10-12 hours per week.

What you'll do#

• Plan, storyboard, and produce vertical videos, including interviews, b-roll, and product spotlights.
• Shoot and edit mobile-first content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, utilizing strong hooks, pacing, and native effects.
• Appear on camera or conduct on-camera interviews with local business owners.
• Write engaging captions tailored to platform trends and best practices.
• Create basic still graphics and thumbnails using Canva.
• Track content performance using native analytics and summarize key learnings.
• Coordinate filming logistics, permissions, and releases with local businesses.
• Maintain organized media libraries and practice accessibility-first publishing, including captions and alt text.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a Bachelor’s degree program in Communications, Media Studies, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
• Proficiency with mobile video editing tools, such as CapCut, or desktop software like Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or Rush.
• A portfolio or links to short-form video content you have produced.
• Strong understanding of social media trends, hooks, and basic SEO for social.
• Comfort appearing on camera and interviewing others.
• Ability to work independently in the field, maintaining professionalism with business owners and the public.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and reside in New York City with reliable transportation.

• Compensation: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour.
