About the role#
Yates Construction offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engineering design for heavy industrial projects, including steel manufacturing, pulp and paper, and chemical sectors. You will work on developing concepts, estimates, and construction deliverables while learning to balance efficiency with client needs.
What you'll do#
- Apply department design and drafting standards to your work.
- Help develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to find efficient project approaches.
- Create estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
- Prepare detail design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
- Focus on designs that are easy to build and meet client expectations.
- Support the drafting group with routine layout and detailing problems.
- Assist with site surveys when projects require them.
- Handle general departmental support tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science program in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering at an accredited university.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct site inspections, which includes walking on uneven surfaces, navigating various terrains, and using stairs or ladders.
- Willingness to comply with all site PPE and safety procedures.
