About the role#
This internship provides support to the Monticello Design Engineering Team and Capital Projects. You will assist with technical tasks and project work while gaining experience in utility operations. This is a paid, full-time position for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement industrial safety improvements, such as shaft guards and platforms.
- Manage the site engineering document change backlog.
- Update site calculations and lifecycle management documents.
- Improve reporting tools and integrate AI tools into design engineering workflows.
- Research equipment replacements and operating experience to support troubleshooting.
- Assist with the early screening of outage modifications.
- Support software implementation projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore or higher in an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- Ability to pass a nuclear background screening for un-escorted access to nuclear facilities.
- Preferred: Experience in computer or data science to support software and database tasks.
- Preferred: Strong problem-solving skills and a focus on safety.

- Locations: Minneapolis and Monticello, Minnesota.
- Modality: Hybrid and on-site work required.
- Schedule: Full-time during the summer, with potential for part-time hours during the school year.
- Travel: Occasional travel to downtown facilities and the Prairie Island plant is required.
