All with the support, rewards and recognition you need to thrive – during your internship and beyond.This intern will provide support of Monticello Design Engineering Team and Capital Projects.Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:Work on industrial safety improvement items - shaft guards for rotating machinery, platforms, and other industrial safety engineering requests.Work on site engineering document change backlogImprove upon reporting tools used by site engineers and integration of AI tools into design engineering activities.Support early screening of outage modifications.Engage in site troubleshooting and decision-making efforts by researching operating experienceResearch replacements for obsolete equipmentUpdate site calculations.    Update lifecycle management documents Endeavor software implementation. This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.Minimum Requirements:Current student, Sophomore or higherEnrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.Occasional travel to meet with engineers & interns at downtown facilities, and sister plant (Prairie Island)Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.Preferred Qualifications:Computer/data science experience to support software and database improvement activitiesProblem solving skillsFocus on safetyMust be able to pass nuclear background screening for un-escorted access to the nuclear facilitiesAs a leading combination electricity and natural gas energy company, Xcel Energy offers a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to 3.4 million electricity and 1.9 million natural gas customers across eight Western and Midwestern states.
