About the role#
WSP is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This part-time, on-site role is based in Washington, DC, and requires approximately 10 to 20 hours per week. The intern will work alongside planners and project managers to support regional transportation projects focused on mobility, accessibility, and planning studies. This position offers exposure to transit system planning, multimodal corridor planning, and public engagement efforts.
What you'll do#
- Support transportation planning projects by assisting with planning studies, public engagement, and technical documentation.
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data for research, surveys, and field investigations.
- Prepare data and visualizations including tables, charts, reports, and infographics.
- Assist technical staff with the evaluation and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and presentations summarizing research findings.
- Use tools like topographic maps, GPS data, and aerial photography to assist with project site analysis.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Undergraduate, Masters, or PhD program in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date of January 2027 or later.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated interest in transportation or urban planning.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
