About the role#
The Public Affairs Intern will support public outreach and stakeholder engagement for a major transmission upgrade project. This role involves acting as a liaison between the project and the community, while assisting with communication efforts for infrastructure projects across the New York and Northeast region. This is a paid, full-time position for the Fall 2026 semester.
What you'll do#
- Serve as an on-the-ground liaison between the project and the community.
- Manage and track a stakeholder and public input database, including running analytics and reports to inform outreach strategies.
- Draft and support content development for the project social media channels.
- Monitor and archive media coverage related to project issues.
- Coordinate and support public meetings and community events with neighborhood groups and stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of strategic messages to educate the community on project needs, benefits, and impacts.
- Analyze the effectiveness of outreach campaigns, including website and social media performance.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited Undergraduate or Graduate program in Political Science, Journalism, Economics, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in public affairs, infrastructure, or clean energy.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and digital tools.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
