Intern, Transit and Rail Engineering

About the role#

This is a hands-on Fall 2026 co-op opportunity with the Rail & Transit Modelling and Simulation team. You will work alongside engineers and technical specialists to turn transportation challenges into data-driven insights, supporting the development of safer, more reliable, and sustainable rail and transit systems.

What you'll do#

• Support rail and transit projects by building, running, and refining modelling and simulation workflows.
• Analyze inputs and outputs, validate results, and translate findings into clear technical insights for project teams.
• Prepare data for modelling, including cleaning, formatting, and performing QA/QC, while documenting all assumptions and methodologies.
• Assist with scenario testing to evaluate performance, capacity, reliability, and operational impacts.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate modelling outputs into broader engineering deliverables.
• Contribute to technical memos, figures, and presentations for internal and client teams.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in a university engineering program—such as Civil, Transportation, Systems, Software, Mechanical, or Electrical—and eligible for a Fall co-op term.
• Foundational understanding of modelling concepts, including simulation, optimization, statistics, forecasting, or systems analysis.
• Experience with data analysis or programming using tools like Python, MATLAB, or R.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and structured datasets, with strong attention to detail in documentation and quality control.
• Ability to communicate technical work clearly in both written and verbal formats to various audiences.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to manage tasks and timelines in a team environment.
