This is a full-time, paid internship opportunity for the Summer and Fall 2026 semesters. Interns will work on-site in Maitland, Florida, gaining hands-on experience in substation design while working alongside senior engineering staff. This role is designed to help students develop technical, social, and ethical skills within the consulting engineering and electric utility industries.
What you'll do#
- Support a variety of engineering tasks and learn basic principles of electrical engineering.
- Participate in the development of substation design components, including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications, physical layouts, and structural plans.
- Perform design calculations using industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, and NESC.
- Assist senior engineers with QA and QC design checks.
- Adhere to client standards and project processes.
- Complete assigned training and exercise responsible decision-making regarding project resources.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program for Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Demonstrated interest in consulting engineering or the electric utility industry.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and engineering software.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
