About the role#
The IT Service Desk Intern provides technical support for hardware, software, and applications across the organization. You will work under the supervision of the IT Service Desk Manager and senior team members to gain hands-on experience in a professional ITSM environment. This role is designed to build foundational IT skills and prepare you for a full-time IT Service Desk Support Specialist position.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support for laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers, and A/V equipment.
- Resolve assigned tickets in Freshservice and communicate action plans to users.
- Deliver customer service via phone, email, and Microsoft Teams.
- Document incidents and resolutions to contribute to the Service Knowledge Management System.
- Configure hardware and ensure equipment is ready for operation.
- Manage component supply inventory and create purchase requisitions.
- Process returned equipment, update CMDB asset records, and stage devices for reimaging.
- Assist with routine printer maintenance, such as toner replacement.
- Prepare outbound equipment shipments for employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Follow IT Service Desk policies and SOC II compliance requirements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an IT-related program at a vocational high school or college.
- Proficiency with computer hardware and common desktop software.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts and Windows operating systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems with guidance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills for phone, email, and Microsoft Teams.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant IT experience, including coursework or lab experience.
- Familiarity with macOS, iPadOS, or Chromebook is a plus.
- Experience with an ITSM tool like Freshservice or ServiceNow is a plus.
- A+ Certification or active pursuit of the certification is a plus.
- Prior help desk or technical support experience in a Windows environment is preferred.
