About the role#
West Yost is seeking a Project Controls Intern to support project management, financial tracking, and scheduling within the water and wastewater industry. You will work alongside Project Managers, engineers, and accounting staff to gain hands-on experience on active engineering and technology projects. This role focuses on the planning, monitoring, and reporting required for successful project delivery.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project setup, including budgets, tasks, and labor allocations.
- Maintain and analyze project financial information such as expenditures, forecasts, and accruals.
- Coordinate monthly invoicing by reviewing costs, progress, and contract requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, milestones, and work plans.
- Collect project data to prepare status reports, dashboards, and charts.
- Track project changes, risks, decisions, and action items.
- Coordinate recurring project controls activities with technical leads and project staff.
- Support the continuous improvement of project controls templates and reporting tools.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Construction Management, Economics, or Data Analytics.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and communicate complex financial and project performance information.
- Strong proficiency or demonstrated aptitude with Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated fluency with ChatGPT or similar generative AI tools, including the ability to prompt effectively and validate AI-generated outputs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple assignments under recurring deadlines.
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment.
Location & details#
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona.
- Work Modality: This position requires an in-office presence for all hours worked.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $22 per hour.
