About the role#
Viking Global Investors is seeking a Data Science Intern for a 10-week summer program. You will work alongside the Data Science team, Investment Analysts, and Data Engineers to analyze and expand our repository of alternative data assets. This role focuses on generating actionable investment insights and solving complex quantitative problems.
What you'll do#
- Build and deliver predictive analytics on companies, sectors, and macroeconomic trends.
- Translate alternative data analysis into insights for the investment team.
- Develop methodologies to identify and evaluate investment opportunities in private companies.
- Identify and evaluate new data sources.
- Streamline the data life cycle, operating model, and process.
- Test and evaluate new technologies to enhance our big data platform.
- Create centralized and automated analyses.
- Contribute to the firm's research effort by sharing information and insights.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or a PhD (3rd year and above).
- Degree in Data Science, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in Python and statistical libraries.
- Working knowledge of SQL, BI software like Tableau, cloud technologies, and modern LLM tooling.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to non-technical audiences.
- Independence of thought and the ability to carry out research projects with partial supervision.
- Sound judgment and the ability to view the big picture.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and a commitment to excellence.
