About the role#
As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or manager to assist with direct and indirect patient care. This is a part-time position for the Summer 2027 term. You will gain clinical experience while supporting the daily operations of the hospital unit.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, comfort care, and nutritional support.
- Perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks as directed.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Manage inventory of supplies and equipment, including sterilization tasks.
- Provide emotional support to patients and participate in nursing in-services and patient conferences.
- Round with physicians and assist with problem-solving on the unit.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first semester of your junior year in a BSN program.
- For Associate Degree or Diploma students, completion of the first year or at least two semesters of basic nursing courses.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent is required for continued employment.
- Previous acute care experience as a nursing assistant or aide is preferred.
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs and perform tasks involving prolonged standing, bending, and walking.

- Location: Richmond, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $18.25 per hour.
- Schedule: Shift rotations and hours will be established with your unit manager and may be adjusted to meet unit needs.
