About the role#
This is a 10-week summer externship for nursing students. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or manager to provide direct and indirect patient care. This role is a full-time, paid position based in Tappahannock, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with daily living activities, comfort care, and nutritional support.
- Perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks.
- Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
- Provide emotional support to patients.
- Participate in nursing in-services, patient conferences, and physician rounding.
- Engage in unit-based problem solving.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first semester of junior year in a BSN program, or completion of the first year (minimum two semesters) of basic nursing courses for Associate Degree and Diploma programs.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent is required for continued employment.
- Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks like prolonged standing, bending, and walking.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to frequent changes in a clinical setting.
