About the role#
VCA Lakewood Animal Hospital offers a practical externship and preceptorship program for students currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician program. This role provides hands-on experience in a clinical setting to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work directly with our veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to gain exposure to both routine and emergency veterinary care.
What you'll do#
- Assist with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Administer medications and vaccinations to patients.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures.
- Conduct laboratory tests such as bloodwork and urinalysis.
- Take radiographs.
- Care for hospitalized animals.
- Educate pet owners on preventive care.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Veterinary Technician program.
- A desire to learn and a strong interest in animal care.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Enthusiasm for participating in patient care.
- Basic knowledge of animal handling and medical terminology is helpful but not required.
