About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your veterinary career. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. The program is flexible and typically lasts two to three weeks, though it can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and evaluates your performance based on your college requirements.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for patients.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing medical cases.
- Provide wellness care.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Polish your technical skills.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional approach to dress and behavior.
