About the role#
Valard Construction is hiring Engineering Students for the Winter 2027 term. These positions offer hands-on experience in the electrical utility construction sector. You will work alongside Project Managers and Construction Managers to support the planning and execution of projects. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Calgary. You may be required to travel to active project sites across Canada.
What you'll do#
- Assist with material specifications, design packages, and procurement requisitions.
- Track material deliveries, inventory, and project documentation.
- Coordinate purchase orders, packing slips, and expense submissions.
- Support project schedules, progress reports, and quality records.
- Assist with project change orders, including cost and schedule updates.
- Provide technical support to field teams during construction.
- Liaise between project operations and the corporate office.
- Assist in coordinating staff, resources, and workflows.
- Support project planning by scheduling tasks and milestones.
- Facilitate communication between field staff, design engineers, and clients.
- Review and interpret construction drawings and project documents.
- Maintain project processes, data systems, and records.
- Assist with quantity take-offs, pricing, and validating outsourced estimates.
- Incorporate historical data into cost models and format estimates for reporting.
- Review engineering design documents and prepare deliverables for bid submissions.
- Attend project planning sessions and assist in developing execution plans.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary Engineering program with at least one semester remaining.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada for the full duration of the term.
- Availability for a 4- or 8-month term starting in January 2027.
- Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Familiarity with project management processes.
- Proficiency in standard computer programs including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation tools.
- Previous experience or exposure to the construction industry is preferred.
