About the role#
UofL Health offers nursing students an opportunity to transition from student to professional nurse through a structured externship. This program allows students to work alongside professional nurses to develop clinical reasoning skills and gain hands-on experience in various clinical specialties. Participants will function as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in a float pool setting, with the program culminating in a Summer Nurse Intensive.
What you'll do#
- Function as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the float pool.
- Assist in the delivery of both direct and indirect nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
- Obtain laboratory specimens as directed.
- Assist with all aspects of registered nursing patient care under direct supervision.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Successful completion of nursing fundamentals or foundations by the program start date.
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- An anticipated graduation date between August 2027 and July 2028.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
