About the role#
Tufts Medical Center offers a program for nursing students to gain hands-on clinical experience while continuing their education. You will work alongside experienced nursing professionals in various inpatient settings. This role provides flexibility for students balancing academic commitments. Participants may have opportunities for clinical shadowing, mentorship, and professional development. You may also receive priority consideration for future Nurse Residency Program interviews and practicum or capstone placements.
What you'll do#
- Assist registered nurses with functional patient care and delegated tasks.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, including mobility, range of motion exercises, and comfort measures like positioning and linen changes.
- Collect, record, and communicate clinical data to the assigned nurse.
- Prepare rooms for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Transport patients to other areas of the hospital and act as a sitter to ensure patient safety.
- Perform 12 lead EKGs and connect monitoring equipment.
- Clean wounds and apply dressings after nurse assessment.
- Prime intravenous tubing with non-medicated solutions.
- Collect specimens and perform testing.
- Answer call lights and perform hourly rounding.
- Maintain biomedical equipment and check par levels.
- Greet patients, families, and visitors.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited nursing program.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification.
- One year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, Critical Care Tech, or Patient Care Tech.
- Experience in acute care settings.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
- Basic computer skills and ability to handle confidential material.
