About the role#
Three Trails Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students currently enrolled in an accredited veterinary curriculum. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills under supervision. Externships are flexible, typically ranging from two to eight weeks, and include a weekly stipend of $250.
What you'll do#
You will participate in all aspects of patient care, including:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting in medical case management.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills and refining technical abilities.
- Producing medical records such as SOAPs.
- Working with an assigned mentor to meet your specific learning objectives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to practice ethical standards.
