    About the role#

    As a Structural Blast Intern, you will join the Protective Design & Security team for the Summer 2027 term. You will support projects focused on risk-led security strategies, hardened structures, and secure site design. This role provides exposure to threat-informed engineering and protective design strategies intended to mitigate security risks in the built environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Support engineering work involving blast effects, progressive collapse, and structural hardening.
    • Assist with analysis, modeling, and calculation tasks for physical security and protective design.
    • Prepare reports, technical summaries, and design documentation.
    • Coordinate with architects, engineers, planners, and security specialists within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Participate in field surveys, on-site assessments, and construction-phase activities.
    • Build familiarity with internal collaborative processes and performance-based design approaches.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in civil or structural engineering, or a related field.
    • A strong interest in resilience, security, protective design, and hazard-resistant engineering.
    • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
    • Familiarity with tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino/Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SAP2000, or ETABS is a plus.

    • Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour.
