About the role#
The ThinkBIG program is a two-year college-level course in partnership with South Georgia Technical College. You will earn an Associate's Degree in Applied Diesel Technology while working with Thompson Tractor. This is a paid program that covers tuition, books, and lab fees. Upon graduation, you are offered a position as a technician with the company.
What you'll do#
- Complete two-year college-level coursework.
- Rotate through 8-week internships at Thompson Tractor branches.
- Attend 8-week classroom and lab sessions at South Georgia Technical College.
- Learn Caterpillar-specific technical systems.
- Gain experience with generator operation, engine technology, and automatic transfer switch troubleshooting and repair.
- Work on heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generators.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Qualifying scores on the ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER tests.
- Ability to meet all admission requirements for both South Georgia Technical College and Thompson Tractor.
Location & details#
- This program is full-time and on-site.
- The term begins in Fall 2027.
- Locations include Spanish Fort, Tanner, and Birmingham, Alabama.
