About the role#
The ThinkBIG program is a two-year, paid initiative run by Thompson Tractor in partnership with South Georgia Technical College. Students earn an Associate's Degree in Applied Diesel Technology. The program blends classroom instruction with hands-on training at local branches. You will focus on heavy equipment diagnostics and repair, including engines, hydraulics, powertrains, and fuel systems. Thompson Tractor covers your tuition, books, and lab fees. Upon graduation, you are offered a full-time position as a technician.
What you'll do#
- Complete rotating 8-week internships at Thompson Tractor locations.
- Attend 8-week classroom and lab sessions at South Georgia Technical College.
- Learn Caterpillar-specific technical training.
- Work on heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair.
- Receive tools, a toolbox, and uniforms.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required by the start of the program.
- You need a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- You must pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- You must meet the admission standards for both South Georgia Technical College and Thompson Tractor.
- Qualifying scores on the ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER are required.
