    About the role#

    Thea Energy is hiring a Physics Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role focuses on research projects related to stellarator optimization, plasma confinement, and fusion neutronics. You will work alongside our physics team to advance our approach to commercial fusion energy.

    What you'll do#

    • Lead a dedicated research project within a core physics area.
    • Perform literature reviews to help set project specifications.
    • Run simulations or analyze data to inform our stellarator design.
    • Work with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to translate modeling results into design specifications.
    • Present your findings and project outcomes to the technical team at the end of your internship.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate, masters, or PhD program in Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Experience in areas such as plasma modeling, stellarator optimization, or plasma diagnostics.
    • Ability to work in a facility that contains industrial hazards like high voltage, strong magnets, and cryogenics.
    • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in Kearny, New Jersey.
    • Compensation is $18-25/hr for undergraduate students and $26-30/hr for post-graduate students.
    • We do not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
