About the role#
This is an off-campus work-study position at the New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation. The role provides hands-on experience creating content for a digital news platform. You will work on articles, photography, and social media content while supporting an organization focused on helping New Mexicans plan for college.
What you'll do#
- Pitch and write original articles, features, and multimedia stories.
- Take photos to accompany editorial assignments.
- Research and gather information for ongoing stories.
- Conduct interviews via phone, video, or in-person.
- Support fact-checking and proofreading.
- Collaborate with editors and multimedia teams.
- Attend department meetings to contribute story ideas.
- Manage content for digital platforms and social media.
- Monitor current events, specifically within New Mexico, to propose relevant story ideas.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree-seeking program at UNM, at least half-time (6 hours).
- A valid Work-Study Award and must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- A high school diploma.
- Pursuit of a degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills.
- A basic understanding of AP Style.
- Familiarity with digital tools like CMS platforms, social media, and Google Docs.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
