About the role#
The Technical Publications Department is hiring a Technical Writer Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time, on-site internship runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027. You will work on instructional content and visual documentation for our equipment.
What you'll do#
- Write instructional content using the DITA XML architecture.
- Apply principles of minimalism to simplify text and prioritize graphics and animations.
- Produce illustrations, storyboards, and basic animations.
- Use software including Windchill, Arbortext Editor, Creo Illustrate, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Participate in user testing and customer feedback sessions to refine your work.
- Follow the Toro Style Guides for technical content, graphics, and animations.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student with two years or less remaining in Technical Communication, Professional Communication and Emerging Media, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience creating technical instructions and accompanying graphics.
- Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with markup languages like XML or HTML.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Maya, or Adobe After Effects.
- Ability to create videos or animations and an interest in mechanical concepts.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

- This role is located in Bloomington, Minnesota.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
