About the role#
This 10-week summer internship at Hartford Investment Management Company (HIMCO) offers a hands-on introduction to the buy-side investment management industry. You will work within Business Operations teams to gain exposure to fixed income, equity, derivative, and alternative assets. The role focuses on how business processes, data, and technology support investment management. You will participate in mentoring, networking events, business unit reviews, and sessions with executive speakers. The experience concludes with a capstone project presentation to senior leaders.
What you'll do#
- Analyze processes and support reporting and data needs.
- Document current-state processes to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, controls, and decision-making.
- Contribute to initiatives that connect business requirements with technology-enabled solutions.
- Analyze data quality and support workflow improvement efforts.
- Collaborate across Business Operations, Portfolio Management, Trading, and IT teams.
- Participate in volunteer events and other professional development activities.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Strong academic achievement and a high level of motivation.
- An interest in financial markets and curiosity about the intersection of business, data, and technology.
- Analytical thinking skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to propose new ideas and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Affirmation of the HIMCO Code of Ethics, including compliance with disclosure of accounts, holdings, and pre-clearance of trades.
- Disclosure of political contributions if classified as a Covered Associate.
