About the role#
Tempo Innovations is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join the Technology & Innovation (T&I) test engineering group for the Winter 2027 term. You will work closely with mentors and team members to apply your engineering knowledge to projects that impact the development of thermochemical energy storage systems. This is a full-time, on-site position based in San Diego, California.
What you'll do#
- Play a key role in the design, build, and operation of the newest cell test stand (CTS).
- Own designs from clean sheet concepts through manufacturing and integration.
- Perform CAD modeling and manage the drawing release process for your designs.
- Conduct structural and thermal analysis of components and subsystems.
- Author wiring diagrams, P&IDs, BOMs, test plans, and other technical documentation.
- Perform hands-on fabrication and assembly using hand tools and lab equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or a related engineering discipline.
- Availability to work on-site, full time for at least 10 weeks between January and May 2027.
- At least 3 months of applied engineering experience, such as internships, laboratory work, or personal and team projects.
- Minimum 6 months of experience applying technical skills outside of the classroom.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Prior internship experience is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and adapt to changing needs.
