About the role#
This paid internship offers hands-on experience in a newsroom. You will work on real assignments to build your demo reel and develop skills through professional mentorship. This is a 10-week, full-time program running from May 31 to August 6, 2027. It is focused on hard-news journalism and meteorology.
What you'll do#
- Pitch and research news stories.
- Create content for streaming, digital, social, and TV platforms.
- Work alongside reporters, producers, anchors, and meteorologists in the newsroom and in the field.
- Participate in special projects that shape local coverage.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current college junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- You should be studying journalism, communications, or a related field.
- We are looking for a clear interest in TV news producing, reporting, or meteorology.
- You need experience writing, editing, fact-checking, and using digital or social tools.
- You must be a strong communicator who meets deadlines.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role available at various TEGNA stations, including locations in Tysons, VA; Denver, CO; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; Seattle, WA; and Spokane, WA.
- The internship is paid. Rates vary by location, starting at $15.00 per hour, with specific rates in Denver ($19.84), Sacramento ($17.40), San Diego ($17.75), Seattle ($21.30), and Spokane ($17.13).
