The Operations Engineer Co-op supports the Central Service Area team in maintaining distribution system reliability. This role involves a mix of office-based engineering tasks and field visits to support system protection, power quality, and infrastructure projects. Participation in storm response and recovery activities is a condition of employment for this position.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with Operations Engineers on distribution system protection and coordination.
- Investigate reliability referrals and develop action plans to resolve identified issues.
- Create and process work requests to implement engineering solutions.
- Model proposed designs using specialized software and produce construction prints.
- Estimate electrical loads and determine field measurements.
- Attend weekly work scheduling meetings and assist distribution design staff.
- Conduct weekly field visits, which may include traveling in company vehicles, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering substations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited university as a Junior or Senior.
- Enrollment in a university co-op program.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Major in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Basic understanding of Power Systems.

- Location: Tampa, Florida (Central Service Area).
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: Full-time (30–40 hours per week, Monday–Friday).
- Work Modality: On-site.
