This internship provides practical experience within the Distribution Engineering Operations team. You will work on projects related to distribution system protection, protection coordination, power quality, and reliability. This role involves investigating reliability referrals, developing action plans, and communicating with customers regarding service resolutions. Participation in emergency storm response and recovery activities is a required condition of employment.
What you'll do#
- Create and process work requests using work management software.
- Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine field measurements.
- Model proposed designs in technical software to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.
- Produce construction prints for field construction projects.
- Attend weekly work scheduling meetings.
- Assist Distribution Design staff as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering program, specifically in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Enrollment in your university’s co-op program.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a basic understanding of power systems.
- Ability to work in an office environment and visit field locations, including substations and uneven terrain, approximately once per week.
Location & details#
- Location: Tampa, Florida (Central Service Area).
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: 30–40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Status: Paid, full-time equivalent internship.
