PRN Student Nurse Extern - Surgery

About the role#

The Student Nurse Extern position in Surgery provides practical, supervised experience for nursing students. This role is designed to enhance experiential preparation while ensuring safe and effective patient care under the continuous, direct, onsite supervision of a designated Registered Nurse.

What you'll do#

• Assist nursing staff with activities of daily living and provide nutritional support as needed.
• Perform patient care activities and treatments for which basic competency has been documented and verified.
• Obtain and accurately document weights, intake and output, and vital signs.
• Assist the RN in gathering initial patient data, including vital signs and weights, and orient patients to the hospital environment.
• Report abnormal findings to the RN and collaborate with the care team to maintain high standards.
• Maintain a safe and neat environment in patient care areas.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program with completion of the Junior Year.
• Successful completion of a skills checklist at your nursing school, along with required orientation and on-the-job training.
• Commitment to the full 10-week paid externship program.

• Location: Glasgow, Kentucky.
• Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: This is a PRN position (less than 24 hours per week). Staff are encouraged to work 12-hour shifts when possible.
