PRN Student Nurse Extern - Second Central

About the role#

The Student Nurse Extern program provides practical experience for senior-level nursing students. This 10-week paid externship allows you to enhance your clinical preparation while providing safe, effective patient care under the continuous, direct, on-site supervision of a designated Registered Nurse.

What you'll do#

• Assist nursing staff by performing assigned duties to help patients meet activities of daily living.
• Collect vital signs, specimens, and other related data, and communicate patient or family needs to the nursing team.
• Perform patient care activities and treatments for which you have documented basic competency under RN supervision.
• Provide personal patient care according to organizational standards and policies.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain high-quality care and a safe, neat work environment.
• Assist the RN in orienting patients to the hospital environment and reporting abnormal findings.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program with completion of your Junior Year.
• Successful completion of a skills checklist at your school of nursing.
• Ability to demonstrate competency in skill performance as determined by the nursing intern competency checklist.
• Ability to work full-time hours alongside a designated RN.
• A commitment to all 10 weeks of the externship program.
• Successful completion of orientation to the job level and on-the-job training.
