PRN Student Nurse Extern ICU

About the role#

This is a 10-week paid externship designed to provide practical experience for nursing students in an ICU setting. Externs work full-time hours under the continuous, direct, onsite supervision of a designated Registered Nurse. This role is intended to enhance experiential preparation while ensuring safe and effective patient care.

What you'll do#

• Assist nursing staff with activities of daily living and provide nutritional support as needed.
• Perform patient care activities and treatments for which basic competency has been documented under RN supervision.
• Collect and document vital signs, weights, and intake and output data.
• Assist the RN in orienting patients to the hospital environment and gathering initial assessment data.
• Report any abnormal findings to the RN.
• Maintain a safe, neat, and organized work environment in the patient care area.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to support patient needs and maintain quality care.

What you'll need#

• Active enrollment in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program with completion of the Junior Year.
• Successful completion of a skills checklist at your school of nursing.
• Ability to commit in advance to the full 10-week program.
• Ability to complete orientation to the job level and necessary on-the-job training.
