About the role#
We are looking for a student to join our team for a drone imaging internship. You will gain hands-on experience with drone technology, imagery analytics, and precision agriculture tools while evaluating planter performance. This position runs from January 2027 through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Obtain your FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification.
- Plan drone flights, collect field imagery, and manage data.
- Scout fields to document crop growth stages, stand establishment, and general conditions.
- Use Sentera FieldAgent and related tools to collect and analyze imagery.
- Compare field imagery with agronomic observations and data from the John Deere Operations Center.
- Evaluate the performance of SurePoint Ag planter technology systems.
- Create reports, presentations, and summaries based on your field findings.
What you'll need#
- You are currently a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Agronomy, Precision Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, Agricultural Systems Management, or a related field.
- You have a genuine interest in agronomy, crop production, and new technology.
- You possess strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- You can work independently and travel to outdoor field environments.
- You hold a valid driver's license.
- Experience with GIS, mapping, or imagery analysis is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Manhattan, Kansas.
- The position is on-site, though remote work may be possible during the spring semester.
- You will work approximately 15 hours per week from January to May, moving to a full-time schedule for the summer.
- Expect about 50% travel during the summer months, mostly within 250 miles of Manhattan.
